STAIN: Possible Secondary Cosplay Project
While the Rathalos Armor is on a momentary pause and projected to be debuted somewhere around the end of this year of 2018 and guaranteed for 2019, I took some time to think about a secondary cosplay. Currently I've had one other cosplay put on hold for almost a year now(MARVEL'S SAM ALEXANDER NOVA), and its clear to say that I've lost motivation to finish that one over a few reasons which I'll post on a later date. But for now a new secondary cosplay has caught my interest as I re-watched a few episodes of "My Hero Academia."
After coming back from Megacon I realize that the trending age and popularity of Naruto has now passed into the age of memories, as a new trending popularity of My Hero Academia have entered into the Anime hype world. After watching a few episodes I wanted to find a character that doesn't have a main stage presence and appearance yet still popular and known in the animation. I wanted to find something that, if done right would look awesome and fit my body structure, size and appearance. Granted that there are other characters in the anime that I could do, for instance there was a moment I wanted to do Lida in his Ingenium Armor, but my good friend Taylor if ever he does a MHA cosplay said he wanted to do Lida himself, and because of Lida's intricate and awesome looking armor it would be befitting for Taylor to do that specific character than myself.
So it came down to "Stain." A villain and Anti-Hero character in MHA that is equipped with just swords and blades. I thought to myself, 'well...I have done King Bradley in his 4 sword battle outfit, why not do another character equipped with the same armaments.' Stain in the anime has a good presence in season 2, and currently unsure if he has any presence in the new season since I haven't watched any of em. But nevertheless he isn't a prime character, but still very known and popular and a good thing that I do have a similar body structure as him(I may be more stocky and chubby), and by looking and researching his outfit and weapons I know I can construct and pull the rest off. Except for one obstacle, if I don't overcome, will put this whole plan in jeopardy and down right in the trash; His face. In the animation he is noseless, his face decrepit, mutilated, with a very elongated chin...yet most of it is covered by this Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles inspired eye band which I could compensate by hiding my nose under that eye band. But looking carefully at the face in the animation and with my physical face it would look very odd since my nose has a longer distance from eyes which would make the eye band that would have to cover my nose would be increasingly too big. I've seen some pictures of others who've cosplayed Stain on the internet and have seen them cover their nose with their eye band which looked horrible and looking nothing like Stain himself. So the only way and solution of hiding my nose and looking similar to Stain is? Prosthetics.
This cosplay will now break every rule of what I don't do when cosplaying. Wig, make-up, and now prosthetics. But if I can overcome this one hurdle than I can make one nice looking Stain. First stage is how to do and what prosthetics is available for me to use to overcome this obstacle and by doing so I researched on people who cosplayed Voldermort from Harry Potter. And with much researching and videos on how to do a noseless Voldermort, I found a site that was selling prosthetics just for that specific facial covering. If I can purchase a few of these prosthetics and practice applying and doing some "make-up magic" then we're in business. So here's to a possible and awesome secondary cosplay to add to my cosplay showcase. Here's hoping.
