Giving K-Drama Another Chance
Its been almost 2 decades since I last remember being all into Korean dramas. For a person as myself who loves to watch variety of movies I always get a kick out of fresh new ideas, story lines, great scripting, acting, drama, action, comedy, a sprinkle of suspense and mystery, romance, fantasy, nerdum and of course sci-fi. This also pertains to television sitcoms, comedy, drama, and action series. These are all the things that makes a quality movie or tv show. Too much of only one thing makes any of it lack lustered, watered down, boring and even stressful. For instance if a movie or show becomes only stressful with anguish, torture, anxiousness, and heartbreak really makes it hard to watch or re-watch. Stuff like the Cast Away or In The Heart of Sea can really make a great movie to me a big turn off due to the high content of stress, disgust, and heartache.
Korean Drama has a high reception in not only in Korea itself but all over the world. Due to the high content of "feel good moments," romance...unrealistic romance at that, comedy, "slice of life," beautiful actresses, good-looking actors(who many just CANT ACT worth crap), cliff hangers that makes all viewers drop to their knees begging for the next episode. It is addicting and I'm not here saying that I was never addicted. So let me say, "I WAS A BIT OF A KOREAN DRAMA ADDICT." Yet after wasting so much time feeding off the K-Drama craze, I realized that almost all the shows have the same content that I described as well as this intoxicating and brainwashing hopes and wishes of the shows romance and relational situations to being reality into our own lives. It messed with the mind. So in response I renounced Korean drama and never to spend another minute of my time watching them.
But after going to Korea for the first time last year, I found a new sense of pride in me. Of how great Korea is and what it really means to be a Korean. Of how awesome and flourishing Korea is compared to so many other countries and that includes America as well. So in response to that I have given Korean drama and Korean music another chance and by doing so I picked up on watching this particular show. And so far it has done what it always has done before....I'm addicted. This show in particular "Lets Eat 3" or in Korean "식샤를 합시다" does have its own originality and freshness compared to the ones I've seen so many years back. It has the USUAL content but with food as an emphasis. A connecting string that binds all the usual content together. Its unique, its fun, its comical, original and just entertaining. The show definitely got my attention and I can't wait to finish it.
